Mahinda Pathirana, who told blatant lies, apologizes unconditionally..

Mahinda Pathirana says that he humbly and unconditionally apologizes to the Honorable Court for the public statement he made on his Facebook page on June 11, 2026, alleging that the members of the medical board appointed to examine the health of retired Major General Suresh Salle, who is currently in custody, were members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

We had published a news report on the same day stating that the statement posted by Mahinda Pathirana on his Facebook page on June 11, 2026 was a contempt of court.

A medical board was appointed to examine the health of Suresh Salle on the orders of Magistrate Pasan Amarasena.  Accordingly, we clearly indicated that the statement made by Mahinda Pathirana can be considered as a contempt of court.

Contempt of court means acting in a manner that harms or obstructs the authority, dignity and the process of administering justice. It is a criminal offense. Accordingly, we pointed out that laws are in place to protect the independence of the judiciary and public confidence,

Insulting judges, ignoring court orders, obstructing a trial and making false accusations are included in these offenses, and we stated in the news report, citing the relevant laws, that the court can impose a specific fine or imprisonment for it depending on the nature of the offense.

We explained that Mahinda Pathirana is not a citizen who does not know the seriousness of contempt of court, but we believe that he has now lost his mind, and that it is because of this loss of mind that he has linked JVP politics to an order of the Magistrate's Court.

Therefore, we also wished him well. However, instead of spending a day in socializing the relevant blatant lie, he has now publicly stated that he has fully understood the seriousness of the mistake he made.

If the serious mistake he made caused any inconvenience or disrespect to the Honorable Court, he expresses his deep regret for it and sincerely apologizes to the Honorable Court unconditionally, he has requested the Court to do so in both English and Sinhala.

The note also states that Mahinda Pathirana is a senior lecturer, political analyst and writer.  Mahinda Pathirana is a close associate of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and is also known to be a devotee of the Rajapaksas.

There are groups who have distributed his contemptuous remarks on Facebook and others who have expressed philosophical views and words in support of the same.
