Pillayan's Fundamental Rights Petition Hearing Completed...

The Supreme Court has concluded the hearing of the Fundamental Rights Petition filed by former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan against his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.


The oral arguments in the case concluded today (02), after which the court announced that the pronouncement of the verdict would be postponed.


Pillayan was remanded in custody by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court in April 2026 in connection with an investigation into the disappearance of the Vice-Chancellor of the Eastern University in 2006.
