The cost of the seven presidential palaces in 2025 exceeds Rs. 30 million.

Although the President did not stay in the presidential palaces located across the island during the year 2025, 3,089 different people stayed in those palaces, and the total amount spent on electricity, telephone charges and other facilities in 2025 was Rs. 32,982,675, according to a latest report issued by the National Audit Office. 


The audit report states that only 3 meetings were held in the seven presidential palaces located in Colombo Fort, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kataragama, Mahiyanganaya and Bentota during the entire relevant period. 


According to this audit report, no official meeting or accommodation of anyone was reported in the presidential palaces located in Kataragama, Mahiyanganaya and Bentota during the relevant year.  Despite this, it has been further revealed that Rs. 2,447,754 has been spent on the maintenance costs of these three buildings, including telephone and electricity bills.
