Trade union leaders must file asset and liability declarations before 30th.

The deadline for the executive officers of over 2,000 trade unions operating in this country to submit their asset and liability declarations under the new Anti-Corruption Act ends on the 30th of this month.

A senior official of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption said that strict legal action will be taken against officials who do not submit these declarations before the due date.

According to the International Labor Organization, trade unions are organizations established to protect and promote the wages, working conditions, and employment-related rights of workers.

Trade unions have been established and developed in this country and internationally since ancient times. Membership in a trade union is a fundamental right of working people. That right has also been confirmed in the Constitution.  This right has also been confirmed through legal enactments such as the Trade Union Ordinance and the Industrial Disputes Act.

After starting a trade union, it must be registered with the Department of Labor. There are currently over 2,000 trade unions operating in the country. According to the new Anti-Corruption Act, trade union leaders must also declare their assets and liabilities. The new Anti-Corruption Act, which was previously applicable only to public officials, will ensure transparency in the use of common funds and member funds of trade unions by requiring trade union leaders to declare their assets.

According to sources from the Bribery or Corruption Commission, if those who are required to declare their assets and liabilities after the 30th of this month fail to do so, legal action will be taken against them.

Sources in the Bribery Commission say that after the 30th of this month, those who fail to declare their assets and liabilities will be listed and legal action will be taken against them.

According to the new legal provisions, failure to declare assets is an offense that can be subject to imprisonment or heavy fines.

⁣When we inquire about the trade union sector in this country, it can be seen that many of the leaders who lead them have been in that leadership for a long time. Some of the trade union leaders among them have used their personal political loyalty to represent the parliament on the national list and have obtained many privileges. Such people have also become super rich in this country through trade union privileges.

Indeed, obtaining the declarations of assets and liabilities of trade union leaders through the new Corruption Act becomes a very important process in time when we think about the petty and deceitful behavior of the "Yawa Jeeva" trade union leaders in this country.
