Wimale's wife's prison sentence confirmed.

Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, who was sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment with hard labour for obtaining and possessing a diplomatic passport by using her official authority and presenting false information, had her appeal against that sentence rejected by the Colombo High Court today (11).
With the rejection of the appeal, the sentence imposed on Shashi Weerawansa by the Colombo Magistrate's Court on May 27, 2022, will be implemented. She was sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment with hard labour and a fine of Rs. 100,000 and a further 6 months' imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
Her lawyers filed an appeal against this prison sentence and requested the court to release her on bail until the appeal is heard. Accordingly, the court released Shashi Weerawansa on bail, and the Colombo High Court announced the verdict on the appeal today.
Accordingly, the sentence previously imposed on her by the Magistrate's Court will remain in effect.
